A-C Valley hopes to complete projects in coming months
Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District is moving fast to complete its multimillion dollar renovation plans and give its students upgraded facilities.
At a special meeting Wednesday, Oct. 29, A-C Valley’s school board approved a contract for electrical work in the auditorium at a cost of $933,333. The bid was awarded to Right Electric.
Superintendent David McDeavitt said this was the second time the district received bids for electrical work. The first time, it came in over budget, at about $1.4 million. McDeavitt said the district modified the scope of work and put it out for a rebid.
McDeavitt said the district also received $400,000 from a PAsmart grant that was not factored in to the original project budget. It will go toward electrical upgrades and a green screen.
The electrical work will be part of recent modernization plans school officials have described as needed and beneficial. The district is currently undergoing multiple projects to update infrastructure and key aspects of the district’s facilities.
In May, the school board approved roughly $4 million worth of projects. Work started in early September.
Since then, the board has awarded a number of contracts to bidders for a number of repairs. The board awarded a $122,816 contract to Hile Excavating for the school district’s planned renovations of the football field. It awarded a $504,140 contract to ATT Sports for milling and resurfacing the school’s track and adding a new blue base color to it. The board also awarded a $64,686 bid to Grossman Construction to upgrade district parking to fully meet U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
A-C Valley’s 2025-26 budget is $20.13 million in total expenditures.
Key components of the district’s plans include a full-scale renovation of the high school auditorium, fixing up the varsity football field and track and fixing a handful of parking lots around the campus.
The football field, which was built in 1965, has never been renovated. The field hasn’t hosted a varsity football game since 2021, with the Union/A-C Valley co-op team playing their games at Union High School near Rimersburg.
Plans for the auditorium — also built in 1965 and in need of upgrades, include new seats, entirely replacing the stage, a new curtain system, electrical and technology work, floor tiling and a new lighting system.
The auditorium will be completed by the end of January.
Ongoing work at the football field includes draining and building a new retaining wall. McDeavitt said the football field is about 90% completed.
A feature McDeavitt noted is a new podcast room sound booth that will go in the high school.
“We’ve taken on several projects we expect to be done by the spring of 2026,” McDeavitt said. “We’ll have a real good, high-end auditorium for musicals and community use. There’s a lot of good things going on here at A-C Valley.”
