State police are investigating reports of a Karns City Area Jr./Sr. High School student who posted a naked picture of another student on TikTok.

Police said the photo was of a 13-year-old girl from Butler County. Police spoke with the principal at the school Tuesday, Oct. 28, after it was brought to the district’s attention.

Karns City Area School District superintendent Eric Ritzert said the district became aware when a report was made to a school police officer.

“Although the incident occurred outside of school, district officials have reported it to the Pennsylvania State Police,” Ritzert said. “The police are investigating, and the district will fully cooperate.

“We encourage parents to talk with their children about the appropriate and responsible use of cell phones and social media. Misuse of these platforms can have serious and lasting consequences,” he said.

The following day, state police responded to the school for reports of a 13-year-old male student from Armstrong County possessing THC vape pens.

“Karns City Area School District is committed to maintaining a safe and drug-free learning environment for all learners,” Ritzert said. “Any violation of this will be reported to the Pennsylvania State Police and the district will pursue disciplinary action in accordance with the student code of conduct and Pennsylvania state law.”

No charges had been filed in either incident as of Thursday morning.
