The Harrisville Community Band will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a free concert this Halloween.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Harrisville Volunteer Fire hall, 313 E. Mercer St., Harrisville.

The 35-member band was formed in October 1965 by the late Rev. David Kennedy of the Harmony Presbyterian Church.

Two of the original members of the band are still with the band: Judy Myers Critchlow, who plays clarinet, and Karen Buchanan McKnight, who plays alto saxophone.

The band’s current director is Jim Jaskowak, of Jackson Center, a retired music educator from the Grove City Area School District. The master of ceremonies will be Doug Cook, of Slippery Rock, who is a percussionist in the band.

The band will play selections including “His Honor March,” “Military Escort March,” “Helena Polka,” “Mamma Mia,” “All Things Bright and Beautiful” and a few “spooky” songs. Marsha McKnight, another member of the band, said there will be other surprises in store for the audience of the Halloween performance.

Free refreshments will be available at intermission.
