Eleanor ‘Ellie’ Smith
Eleanor L. “Ellie” Smith, 87, of Butler, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, in the comfort of her home.
She was born Oct. 25, 1938, in Butler, to the late Carl Anderson and Mary (Graham) Anderson.
Ellie graduated from Butler High School and later from Slippery Rock University. She taught for the Butler Area School District and later worked as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Woodlawn Quilters and SilverSneakers. Ellie’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, needlepoint and puzzles. She also enjoyed exercising, attending the Butler Little Theatre, listening to the Butler County Symphony, cutting her grass and getting her mail.
She is survived by son, Steven (Kim) Smith of Georgia; daughters, Barbara (Brian) Amos and Lynn (Shawn) Edwards of Butler; grandchildren, Eric Amos, Ryan Marzullo, Adam (Kimi) Marzullo, Meghan (Hayden) Andrews and Abigail (Justin) Parish; great-grandchild, Amelia; brother, Jim Anderson; sister, Carol Wenzelburger, and sister-in-law, Sharon Anderson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Smith, whom she married Feb. 23, 1962, and who passed Aug. 29, 2012; brother, Don Anderson; and sister, Marian Twerdok.
SMITH — A visitation for Eleanor L. “Ellie” Smith, who died Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, will be held from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, with Pastor Joel Benson officiating.
Burial will take place at Butler County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
