Girl, 16, taken to hospital after Knoch school van hits deer on Monday

A 16-year-old girl sustained suspected minor injuries when a vehicle hit a deer Monday, Oct. 27, in Jefferson Township, police said.

The girl, a secondary student at Knoch School District, was the passenger of a Ford Transit driven by Carol J. Ferlan, 60, of Sarver, around 7 a.m. on Creek Road near Reamer Road. The girl was transported by Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company EMS to Butler Memorial Hospital.

Superintendent David Foley said the student had bumped their head in the crash, prompting a precautionary visit to the hospital.

Police said the vehicle was traveling at around 20 mph and hit the deer head-on.

Four other passengers aged 20, 17, 16 and 11 were uninjured.
