County’s electronics, waste disposal program renewed

Butler County commissioners awarded a three-year contract to Noble Environmental Specialty Recycling to continue facilitating a household hazardous and electronic waste collection program.

The company will host five collection events throughout the year at almost no cost to the county aside from administrative fees. The contract also includes two optional one-year extensions.

Sheryl Kelly, with the Butler County Conservation District, described it as a drive-through event for businesses and residents to dispose of electronics and waste. She said people are assigned a time to show up so there are no lines.

“Residents that attend, they pay half the cost for almost all the items that they drop off, except for things like screen-in televisions. They pay the full cost for that,” Kelly said.

The county pays the other half the cost and is reimbursed through the Act 190 grant, Kelly said.

The contract was sent to 13 companies approved by the Department of Environmental Protection. Three companies expressed interest, but only Noble Environmental Specialty Recycling submitted a bid.
