Another statewide assistance program will be delayed amid the federal government shutdown.
The state Department of Human Services on Wednesday, Oct. 22, announced the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will begin Dec. 3, which is a month later than usual.
LIHEAP is intended to help low-income residents — homeowners and renters — pay heating bills.
LIHEAP supports about 300,000 Pennsylvanians yearly through the distribution of over $200 million.
