Smoke from a barn fire on Powell Road in Penn Township can be seen from Route 8 Wednesday morning, according to Butler County Emergency Dispatch reports.

A sizable barn containing hay and livestock caught fire, prompting a second alarm to be called.

The fire was reported at 243 Powell Road at 9:30 a.m.

At 10:19 a.m., dispatch reports indicated a firefighter was “down” due to a partial collapse of the structure. Emergency services were requested.

Firefighters have struggled to get enough water to fight the fire. Around 11 a.m., the fire had spread to a nearby silo.
