Hopefully Pullman Park improvements move along

For years, the field at Pullman Park has needed upgrades and now those renovations are finally coming along.

The agreement made by the Butler Area School District in June to begin managing the park has already helped the field. On Monday, Oct. 13, superintendent Brian White said it should only be a matter of weeks until turf is replaced.

The school district took over management duties from the City of Butler’s Parks, Recreation, Grounds & Facilities Authority, a volunteer-based organization. Now, the district bears the authority and responsibility to supervise, manage and control the operations of the park, including scheduling, staffing and marketing.

And although the school district is now managing the park, the City of Butler still has some duties in maintaining it. This is a good partnership to have because the park is within the city and provides a venue for activities and events that help bring money to Butler.

Butler City Council approved a bid in September to replace over 400 seats. The bid went to the Eichenlaub Company for around $125,000. Previously, repair costs for the stadium — which included seats, the field and roof repair — were estimated to be around $400,000.

Although it will still take a while for the park to be fully renovated, it’s good to see these improvements made within just a few months of the stadium being under new management. It’s probably a bit stressful to the school district — it’s just another item to add to administrators’ agendas — but once improvements are made, hopefully that stress will be worth it.
