Make your voice heard in Mars school board election

As an older resident, grandfather and a taxpayer without children currently in the school system, I still believe that our schools are the heart of our community. The quality of education, the safety of our students and staff and the management of finances has a lasting impact on every resident.

It is important for all of us, including those without school-age children, to participate in the upcoming school board election. The decisions made by the board directly affect property values, community morale and how our tax dollars are spent.

Two candidates (Michael Bordt and Joseph Joswiak) on the ballot this year have devoted much of their lives to serving and supporting Mars Area School District. They understand the challenges our schools face and are committed to improving safety, managing growth and restoring morale. They have also emphasized making sure the district provides a strong education while keeping spending in check and respecting the taxpayers who fund our schools.

Although these candidates are Republicans, they won the Democratic primary and appear on the ballot that way. Bordt and Joswiak deserve a fair look from every voter who cares about the direction of our district.

School boards are to be non-partisan and represent all without regard to any political affiliation. This election is about stewardship, experience, and ensuring that our schools remain both excellent, safe and accountable.

I encourage you to get informed and make your voice heard at the polls. Our schools and our community’s future depend on it.

Ed McCaul, Mars Borough
