‘ER’ star Alex Kingston reveals uterine cancer diagnosis

PEOPLE
Alex Kingston

Alex Kingston, known for her roles on “ER” and “Doctor Who,” has revealed she was diagnosed with uterine cancer last year.

In an interview with The Independent, published Friday, the actress, 62, opened up about the hysterectomy she underwent and the radiation therapy she completed after.

“I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it,” she told the outlet. “I thought, ‘OK, this is what it’s like to be in my sixties.’ But a lot of how I was feeling was to do with my illness.”

Kingston — currently competing on ” Strictly Come Dancing,” the U.K. version of ” Dancing with the Stars” — shared that she’d been experiencing bloating and aches for a while before seeking medical attention after spotting blood in her urine.

“I never went down the cancer road in my head,” the London native confessed, adding: “It was a shock, because I have a very positive outlook on life in general. Even though my body was telling me there was something very seriously wrong, I kept thinking, ‘Oh, I’ve got a bad UTI or fibroids.'”

Doctors eventually determined she had cancer in her fallopian tubes, but that it hadn’t spread to her ovaries.

Kingston also revealed that she experienced a hemorrhage while performing onstage in “The Other Boleyn Girl” at England’s Chichester Festival Theatre last year.

“That was really shocking,” she said, noting that her ornate Tudor-period costume with knee pads helped spare her from public humiliation.

“I just knocked my knees together and prayed that it would soak everything up,” she said.

After running offstage, the wardrobe women helped Kingston “shove some pads” in her pants and she went back onstage as if nothing had happened.

“That was how we finished the show,” she said.

According to Kingston, the year of 2024 was consumed by her health ordeal.

“Despite having gone through all of that — and any cancer is really tough to accept, to steel yourself to go through all of the necessary procedures to get back into health — the minute I had the operation, I suddenly felt like myself again,” the mother of one said.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston opens about 20-year fertility struggle, media scrutiny

Nearly a decade after revealing her years of IVF, Jennifer Aniston is expanding on her 20-year struggle “to pursue a family.”

The Emmy winner, 56, admitted to Harper’s Bazaar, in an interview published Wednesday, that “the narrative” about refusing to have children — and the conjecture it affected her marriage to Brad Pitt — did “affect her.”

“They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” said the “Morning Show” star and executive producer.

“That’s not anybody’s business. But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it — the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic. It does affect me — I’m just a human being.”

That prompted Aniston to pen the July 2016 Huffington Post op-ed, “For The Record, I Am Not Pregnant. What I Am Is Fed Up,” in which she decried the scrutiny of her body — and women’s bodies in general — which led to speculation on her personal life.

Aniston, who was married to Justin Theroux at the time the op-ed was published, wrote that she was “not in pursuit of motherhood because I feel incomplete in some way, as our celebrity news culture would lead us all to believe.”

In 2022, she told Allure that “the baby-making road” had been a “challenging” one.

“I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it,” she said at the time. “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs.'”

During Aniston’s Harper’s interview, she also discussed the “heartbreaking” October 2023 drowning and ketamine overdose of “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry.

“Boy, for someone who had that much inner turmoil, he sure got to laugh a lot,” said Aniston. “And that was everything to him.”

Katy Perry, left, and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Katy Perry, Justin Trudeau spotted kissing on her yacht

Katy Perry and former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau were spotted kissing and canoodling on the singer’s yacht over the weekend, reigniting romance rumors that had seemed to fizzle out with the summer.

Trudeau, 53, was shirtless and Perry, 40, wore a bathing suit as they shared a passionate embrace aboard the 79-foot vessel anchored off Southern California’s Santa Barbara coast, as TMZ reported. Numerous outlets credited photos obtained by The Daily Mail of the pair standing on the deck, lips locked and bodies intertwined, to prove their romance point.

The two first sparked dating whispers in July, when the “Roar” singer and the Canadian politician were spotted dining together in Montreal. A short time later, Trudeau attended the Montreal show of Perry’s “Lifetimes” tour with 16-year-old daughter Ella-Grace, looking just as entranced as his teen.

At the same time, the pair did not seem inclined to ignite any fireworks. Perry had split with fiancé Orlando Bloom about a month earlier after nine years of back-and-forth dating that produced a daughter, and Trudeau was fresh off his 2023 divorce from his wife of 18 years, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, with whom he shares three children.

“They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes,” a Canadian source told People in August. “She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”
