Butler woman charged with robbing 2 Fayette County businesses

A Butler woman is charged with robbing a Dollar General and Dunkin Donuts in Fayette County.

Lori Ann Rankin, 39, was charged Friday, Oct. 10, with felony robbery and one misdemeanor count each of theft and receiving stolen property, and with felony robbery in an additional case following Friday incidents.

Police said they responded around 4:35 p.m. to the Dollar General on Memorial Boulevard in Connellsville Township for an attempted robbery. Police spoke with a store employee who said Rankin pointed what he believed to be a firearm at him through her jacket pocket and told him “give me the money in the register.”

Police said while the employee was attempting to reason with Rankin, she fled the building and left in a Mitsubishi Outlander without a plate.

Police said they were soon notified for an additional robbery by the same person at Dunkin Donuts in Connellsville City. Police spoke with an employee who said Rankin entered the store while covering her face and demanded the cash register be opened.

Police said Rankin also lifted her jacket pocket to show her waistband and made a gun gesture.

Police said Rankin then told the employee “just kidding” then took $4 from the tip jar and ran.

Police said officers encountered Rankin’s vehicle fleeing on Route 119. Police said Rankin was taken into custody following a traffic stop and admitted to both robberies and a separate robbery the day before in Uniontown City.

Rankin is being held in Fayette County Prison with bail denied. Her preliminary hearings are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 21 before District Judge Daniel Shimshock.
