High school sports roundup: Freeport boys golf comes up short at WPIALs

Ethan Crooks’ 73 was the second-best individual score, but Freeport finished sixth at the WPIAL Class 2A boys golf team championship on Thursday. Carson Kane and Gavin Tola both posted 85s and Max Zigo (86), Aiden Bauman (88) helped, as well. The Yellowjackets finished with a 417 team score.
Dylan Murray carded a 75 and Chris Faber a 78 for North Catholic, which placed fourth with a 412 score. Shady Side Academy (393) took home the crown at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Boys soccer
Xavier Bartoe and Mason Bell both found the back of the net in Karns City’s 2-0 win over Keystone. Brock Dittman notched six saves.
Mars 3, Knoch 1 — The Planets improved to 10-5-2 overall and 8-1-2 in WPIAL Section 1-3A play with the win, their fourth in five tries. Mars visits Shaler on Tuesday to cap its regular season.
North Catholic 11, Leechburg 0 — Arthur Mendonca had a hat trick and Jackson Schlegel added another pair of markers for the Trojans (14-1-1), who play Hampton on Saturday.
Girls soccer
Hanna Dailey had five goals and Layla Colsey three more during a 13-0 win over Keystone. Bree O’Donnell and Phoebe Brandon were among the others who scored.
Girls volleyball
Ashley Ragan had 12 kills and Adi Novad another nine as Slippery Rock swept Sharon by scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-20.
Union 3, Forest 0 — Adrianna Kriebel had three aces for the Damsels, who won by scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-19.
Mars 3, Valley 0 — Rylee Wooldridge had 11 kills and Cecilia Christy nine more during the Planets’ 25-11, 25-15 and 25-13 set wins.
Moniteau 3, A-C Valley 1 — Maddy Dehart had 10 kills and five blocks for the Falcons, who bowed by scores of 19-25, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-9. The Warriors’ Sayge Brunst had six kills and two aces.
Seneca Valley 3, Pine-Richland 1 — No further details were provided.
