City road to receive PennDOT signal, ramp upgrades
PennDOT announced a nearly $4 million project to make signal and ramp upgrades throughout the Route 68 and Route 356 corridor in the city of Butler.
The work will begin at the intersection of Hansen Avenue and New Castle Street. It will continue from New Castle Street onto West Cunningham Street, West Jefferson Street and then East Jefferson Street. Work will conclude at the intersection of East Jefferson and Monroe streets.
PennDOT said work will begin 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, and continue through the end of the year, as needed. Work is scheduled to occur overnight, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., to lessen impact on traffic.
The department said the project is part of a larger safety improvement project including signal upgrades to improve timing and reduce congestion, as well as the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act compliant ramps.
The contractor, M&B Services, will be completing the project and is expected to finish in December 2026.
