By 2009, St. Luke’s Lutheran Christian School alumnus Steve Ambrose had allowed eighth-graders to harvest his fields every fall for about 20 years.
The produce would be donated to the Butler Salvation Army for its food pantry and to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, which each provided meals to area residents. Students typically harvested two farm truck loads of vegetables for the cause.
