Worthington Lutheran Church celebrating its history

Worthington Evangelical Lutheran Church, 136 W. Main St., Worthington, Armstrong County, will celebrate its history with two events this weekend.

At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, the church will have a presentation from Tom Rabbitt on the history of the original Irish Catholic settlers of Sugarcreek Township. His presentation will be followed by Irish Catholic hymns played on a Wicks Opus 6316 pipe organ, then a tour of St. Patrick’s Log Chapel, built in 1805 — the oldest Catholic church west of the Allegheny Mountains.

At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, the church will host a dedicatory organ recital by Christine Clewell, assistant professor of organ and keyboard at Indiana University who will perform on the recently relocated Wicks Opus 6316 organ. Anna Thomas will assist with works by Handel, Locklair and Visser. Other IUP music students will also assist.

Both events are free to attend, but love offerings will be accepted.
