High school sports roundup: Karns City boys soccer clinches District 9 playoff spot on Bartoe, Dittman’s big nights

Xavier Bartoe scored twice and Brock Dittman made 22 saves as Karns City boys soccer clinched a spot in the District 9 playoffs with a 3-1 victory Tuesday over Central Clarion.

After falling behind 1-0, Bartoe evened things up following a throw-in from Joshua Peters. Colton Christie’s corner kick led to KC’s second goal.

Mason Bell found the net to cap the win.

North Catholic 10, Burrell 0 — Scoring two goals apiece for the Trojans (13-1-1, 11-1) were Justin Garvey and Gabe Nonino.

Matthew Liscinsky, Arthur Mendonca and Brody Kennedy all tallied two assists.

Mars 9, Armstrong 1 — Max Davis scored three times for the Planets (9-5-2, 7-1-2).

Cross Country

Slippery Rock’s girls claimed the second through fifth spots in a 23-34 win against Hickory.

The Rockets’ Kasey Yeager was runner-up with a time of 20:07 followed by teammates Lydia Springirth (20:12), Lylah Robare (20:32) and Leah Perez (20:42). Slippery Rock improved to 4-1 on the season.

Hickory’s Mira Moschillo paced the field in 19:42.

In the boys race, Hickory topped the Rockets 17-46. Anthony Jordan placed first for the Hornets with a time of 17:38.

The Rockets (2-3) received a fourth-place effort from Hunter Doerflinger, who finished in 18:01.

Girls soccer

Hanna Dailey scored five goals and had two assists to lead Karns City to a 14-0 win over Central Clarion.

Layla Colsey added two goals, Bella Shields a goal and two assists.

Girls volleyball

Moniteau rolled to a sweep of Union by set scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-18.

Emily Matz, Sayge Brunst and Lily Staab combined for 20 kills and 15 aces. Maddy Eury added 15 assists.

Mars 3, Highlands 0 — Cecilia Christy tallied 17 kills and Rylee Wooldridge 13 kills as Mars dominated the Golden Rams by set scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-11.

Gabi Weidemann had 35 assists, Alaina Graham 11 digs and Sabrina Ruiz-Gonzalez eight aces.

North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley 0 — The Raiders dropped this match to the Tigers by set scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-13.

A-C Valley 3, Redbank Valley 2 — The Falcons nearly fell victim to a Bulldogs’ rally, but earned a victory by set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 9-25, 23-25 and 15-10.

Maddy Dehart led the way with 12 kills and 14 blocks. Nichole Wingard contributed 19 assists, and Lexi Altman had five kills, seven assists and seven digs.
