Freeport brings back Halloween carnival
FREEPORT, Armstrong County — Freeport residents were treated to frights and delights on an unseasonably warm day Sunday, Oct. 5, during the sixth annual Freeport Halloween Carnival and Vendor Event.
Market Street Park was overtaken by Halloween decorations, themed vendors, food stands and fairground rides all weekend.
The event was founded in 2019 by Dark Lock Productions, a Sarver-based events production company. According to the event’s Facebook, it has received more than 10,000 visits during its first five years.
Sunday’s activities only ran until 5 p.m., but that didn’t stop hundreds from looping the park to explore vendors and get a bite to eat. Despite the bright sun beating down, lights adorning the Ferris wheel and other rides were shining.
While the event invited vendors from across the region, it also served as a way for Freeport residents to advertise and sell their own products close to home.
One such example is Shawn Arnold, owner of Keystone Craftory. As a resident of Freeport, he said the carnival was integral for him to take the first steps with his business.
“The Freeport carnival has been pretty important in helping me grow, to get where I’m at right now,” he said.
This year, Arnold’s stall had a Halloween theme. From shirts and hats depicting Sasquatch to planters adorned with skulls, he said it was his goal to go all out for one of his favorite holidays.
“It’s all Christmas going forward. I do stockings and ornaments going into the holiday season,” he explained. “If you come out to see me at my next event in November, it’ll look completely different.”
