I’m writing in response to Jill Mick’s letter to the editor (“Trump is securing our borders,” Sept. 28, Page A4) claiming that President Donald Trump is the most “pro-American” president.

With all due respect, Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated anti-American behavior. He has tried to silence critics, floated the idea of running for an unconstitutional third term, pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord and Human Rights Council, alienated allies with reckless tariffs, and mocked the rule of law that shielded him from prison for his 34 felonies, document retention, and for racketeering in Georgia during the 2020 election.

If this is your definition of America, then we differ.

True patriotism isn’t blind loyalty to one man — it’s loyalty to the Constitution, to democracy and to the freedoms that define us. I feel Trump has attacked those very principles at every turn, and history will not look kindly on that.

I respect the right to political opinion, but we also have a duty to confront misinformation. For the sake of our community and our democracy, we must demand truth and hold leaders accountable.
