Union/A-C Valley faces Moniteau in another battle of two Butler County-area teams Friday night, highlighting another packed Week 6.
Butler is trying to get back in the win column after consecutive losses, Karns City wants to as well after surprising blowing a 19-0 lead a week ago, and three teams still remain undefeated: Freeport, Union/A-C Valley and North Catholic.
The Eagle will be at four games this week — Connellsville at Butler (John Enrietto), Central Clarion at Karns City (Brendan Howe), Harbor Creek at Slippery Rock (Derek Pyda) and Union/A-C Valley at Moniteau (Aidan Treu). 9:41 p.m.: Seneca Valley not done yet against Mt. Lebanon
QB Andrew Loebig used his legs to take it in himself, scoring from around 15-yard line inside nine minutes to play to get the Raiders on the board for the first time in the second half, trailing 34-20.
9:38 p.m.: Slippery Rock comeback falls short, North Catholic will come up short
The Rockets couldn’t turn an onside kick recovery into the go-ahead score, falling 20-14 to Harbor Creek.
And Imani Christian looks like it’ll hand North Catholic its first loss after punching in a TD run in the final minutes to go up 36-16.
9:29 p.m.: North Catholic turns it over on downs late
Imani blitz North Catholic QB Joe Felitsky on a fourth-and-short pass attempt and got home, forcing a turnover on downs with less than seven minutes left to play. The Trojans (5-0) are at risk of losing their first game of the season to unbeaten Imani.
9:22 p.m.: Freeport, Union/A-C Valley roll to 6-0, other final results
Two of the best teams in Butler County remain so after winning by a combined 90-0 tonight. Mars thumped West Mifflin, and Union/A-C Valley didn’t give an inch to Moniteau.
Freeport is the second 6-0 team, with the Falcon Knights, after pounding Valley 42-7.
9:19 p.m.: Slippery Rock making it interesting late ...
Kole Scott scored on a 5-yard run, then the Rockets recovered the onside kick with 4:57 left, and suddenly SRHS is in business trailing Harbor Creek 20-14 late with a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown and PAT, according to reporter Derek Pyda.
9:13 p.m.: North Catholic trails Imani Christian after long run
The Trojans (5-0) are trailing for what I believe is the first time all season, or at least this late in a game. Imani’s David Davis busted open a 91-yard run to put the Saints up 22-16 late in the third quarter. Both teams are 5-0 and could meet again in the playoffs.
9:09 p.m.: Butler’s Klemz with 100-yard night
Some stats courtesy of John Enrietto: RB Mark Klemz had 138 yards rushing, 4 total TDs after three quarters of play. It was Tyson Pino on the 9-yard fumble return for a score as well.
9:06 p.m.: Knoch falls to 0-6 after onside kick fails
The comeback attempt falls short. The Knights attempted an onside kick with less than 1:30 left, but Indiana was on top of it right away and kneeled the clock from there. The Knights are still looking for their first win of the season and face Mars on the road next week.
9:01 p.m.: Knoch scores late on Carter Beres TD run
The Knights went up 7-0 at the beginning of the game, but Indiana scored 21 straight to put Knoch in jeopardy of an 0-6 start. But Carter Beres has given the Knights some late hope, running in for a TD from about 5 yards out to make it 21-14 with less than 1:30 left to play. Knoch will need to get the onside kick and drive quickly to tie it.
8:57 p.m.: Harbor Creek extends lead over Slippery Rock on second FG
The Huskies are now up 20-7 after a 32-yard field goal. The Rockets had an early 7-0 lead but have been held scoreless since.
8:54 p.m.: Union/A-C Valley runs another in on Moniteau
The Falcon Knights got into the red zone again quickly and scored on about a 10-yard run to make it 44-0 after three quarters. They are nearing a 6-0 start this season.
8:52 p.m.: Mars triggers running clock as well, running away from West Mifflin
Looks like Ayden Yocum punched in a short TD run at the goal line, putting the Planets up big 39-0 midway through the third quarter. PAT was no good, but this game is well in hand.
8:46 p.m.: Max Gallagher’s TD run trips running clock
Union/A-C Valley has triggered the running clock halfway through the third quarter after RB Gallagher took a handoff up the gut for a short touchdown. Falcon Knights lead Moniteau 36-0.
8:43 p.m.: Klemz makes Connellsville pay for second straight turnover
Butler extends it lead to 36-21 on a run outside by Mark Klemz from outside the 20. This was a 14-0 Butler deficit in the first quarter. Not anymore. After a PAT penalty, Butler scored a two-point conversion.
8:39 p.m.: Butler takes second-half lead on fumble
The Golden Tornado are on top of Connellsville for the first time tonight, scoring on a fumble recovered in the end zone and converting a two-point attempt to make it 28-21. Butler has lost two straight and is 3-2.
As this is being typed, Butler then recovered a fumble on Connellsville’s ensuing kickoff return. The Tornado have the ball at the 15.
8:04 p.m.: Max Gallagher puts Union/A-C Valley up by 29 on Moniteau
The Falcon Knights’ RB took a handoff inside left from 8 yards out for an end-of-half touchdown, giving UACV a 29-0 lead.
Butler trails 21-14 at the half after Connellsville scored on the first three drives of 76, 60 and 67 yards, per reporter John Enrietto.
Mark Klemz has 60 yards rushing, 65 receiving so far.
7:59 p.m.: Nicco Baggetta leads end-of-half Butler scoring drive
Two big plays from QB Baggetta has Butler back in this one before halftime. He hit Mark Klemz on an inside screen on third-and-15 the RB took well past midfield. Then he connected with WR Mason Lacey on a beautifully thrown deep ball up the left seam for a TD to make it 21-14 Connellsville. Less than 30 seconds remain in the half.
7:53 p.m.: Ayden Yocum breaks through for 25-yard Mars TD
The Planets are cruising, up by more than 20 in the first half, after RB Ayden Yocum took an inside handoff, broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage then dashed away for a 25-yard score. Big points from my third-round pick.
7:50 p.m.: Karns City ties it up on Hunter Scherer TD
Scherer took a handoff from about the 5-yard line on second-and-1 and drove into the end zone to knot things up with Central Clarion 7-7 in the second quarter.
7:46 p.m.: Slippery Rock defense stiffens to keep lead
Backing up a moment, Harbor Creek got inside the SRHS 15-yard line at the end of the first quarter, but the Rockets’ D held it to a field goal to maintain a 7-3 lead, according to reporter Derek Pyda.
7:43 p.m.: Mars punches in short TD to extend lead
The Planets are also on their way to a 5-1 start after adding a short TD run from about a yard out to make it 19-0 over West Mifflin.
North Catholic, currently 5-0, is up 9-0 on Imani Christian in the second quarter.
7:36 p.m.: Amos Glenn scores third TD in 1st quarter
Brendan’s No. 2 overall draft pick in our fantasy league this week (WATCH “EYE ON SPORTS” HERE) is giving him big points already. Glenn added his second rushing TD of the night to make it 35-0 Freeport, and it’s not yet the end of the first quarter.
7:32 p.m.: Falcon Knights up two scores early over Moniteau
Union/A-C Valley leads 14-0 after RB Max Gallagher took a direct snap around the right tackle for a 1-yard TD. It came after the Falcon Knights converted a fourth-and-short earlier in the drive.
7:29 p.m.: Butler gets on board with big fourth-down pass
A third-down snap sailed over QB Nicco Baggetta’s head and nearly ended in Connellsville’s hands for a turnover. But on the next play, facing fourth-and-long from the 21, Baggetta hit RB Mark Klemz for a TD to the left pylon to cut the deficit to 14-7.
7:27 p.m.: Freeport adds to lead with blocked-punt TD
Dawson Gaillot scooped up a blocked punt, Freeport’s second in two defensive stands, for a 21-0 lead. At the time of the score, the Yellowjackets have scored by kick return, rush and a blocked punt and had run just one offensive play.
That’s one way to do it ...
7:12 p.m.: Knoch up early on QB keeper
Knoch (0-5) is seeking its first win of the year and is off to a good start. T.J. Wiley took a QB keeper inside from within 10 yards for a touchdown. The Knights lead early 7-0.
7:10 p.m.: Glenn scores again on second touch of game
It’s gonna be difficult to track this game at this pace. The ’Jackets blocked Valley’s first-drive punt and recovered it inside the 10. And Glenn, on his second touch of the game and first on offense, punched it in on a rushing effort to make it 14-0 Freeport early.
7:08 p.m.: Slippery Rock takes early lead over Harbor Creek
The Rockets have taken early leads often this season but have had trouble holding onto them. Week 6 is another test of that trend, as QB Doug Popovec puts SRHS up 7-0 early on a 9-yard TD.
It was set up by Popovec’s 53-yard pass to Sawyer Allen.
7:04 p.m.: Amos Glenn returns opening kickoff for Freeport TD
The Yellowjackets’ penchant for early fireworks continued. RB Amos Glenn returned the opening kickoff from outside the 10-yard line and returned it down the right sideline for a touchdown and 7-0 Freeport lead over Valley.
Freeport (5-0) is one of three undefeated teams in the county.
