Butler woman accused of breaking into residence

A Butler woman is accused of breaking into a Mercer Street residence, police said.

Diane Marie Malezi, 58, was charged Thursday, Sept. 25, with felony burglary following the incident.

Police said they were dispatched for reports of an unknown person inside a residence. Police were told the deadbolt for the door had been locked, which could be done only from the inside because the tenants do not have a key to it.

Police knocked on the door and were answered by Malezi, who said she would come out only if she heard the voice of one of the tenants. Police said Malezi refused to open the door multiple times.

Police used a breaching tool to gain entry to the residence and found Malezi. She had the keys to the residence on her person. The tenant told police the keys went missing earlier that morning.

Malezi is being held in Butler County Prison on a $10,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.
