Inmate accused of having weapon
A Butler County Prison inmate was charged after a corrections officer said they found him in possession of a homemade weapon.
Butler County Detectives on Wednesday, Sept. 24, charged Dartavion Johnson, 20, with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in prison after an officer discovered a club-like weapon while removing him from his cell for recreation time.
According to an affidavit, the item was about 17 inches long and 3 inches in diameter and was made from “toilet paper that had been moistened and compacted in the form of a club.”
When asked what it was and what he was doing with it, Johnson replied, “It’s a whip and I’m throwing it away,” according to the affidavit.
A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.
