High school sports roundup: Butler boys, girls cross country teams move to 6-0 after home wins

Seniors Logan Rogers (17:38.72) and Ethan Thomas (17:39.13) and junior Brendan Eicher (17:39.20) went 1-2-3 in Butler’s 17-42 boys cross country win over Central Catholic at Preston Park.

The Golden Tornado improved to 6-0 on the season.

Butler (girls) 23, Oakland Catholic 36 — Golden Tornado junior Macie McLister (21:05.37) placed second and sophomore Zari Golojuh (21:05.37) third as their team moved to 6-0.

North Allegheny boys 19, Seneca Valley 42; Seneca Valley 24, North Hills 33 — Raiders senior Riley McGee finished fourth with a time of 17:03.7 during a tri-meet in North Park, while Hunter Petersen followed in fifth (17:07.5).

Slippery Rock (boys) 25, Greenville 32 — Hunter Doerflinger (18:03) crossed the finish line first during the dual-meet. Rockets (1-2) teammate Zachary Geisner (18:33) took third.

Slippery Rock (girls) 16, Greenville 46 — The Rockets finished in the top four spots, including Kasey Yeager’s first-place effort (20:04). Leah Perez followed just behind at 20:06, Lydia Springirth 20:11 and Lylah Robare 21:10.

Girls soccer

Hanna Dailey had three goals, Bree O’Donnell and Phoebe Brandon two apiece and Aubrey Price, Sophia Bonetto, Aysha Vavro and Maddy Mahood one each as Karns City thumped Keystone 10-0.

Giada Bonetto had the shutout for the Gremlins.

Boys soccer

Mason Bell netted the overtime game-winner during Karns City’s 2-1 triumph over Keystone. Joshua Peters also scored, while Brock Dittman made 10 saves.

Colton Christie and Davin Henry had assists.

Butler 5, Latrobe 1 — Cullen Forbes, Jude Perhacs, Colten English, Noah Ernst and Aiden Ansani all got on the scoreboard for the Golden Tornado (5-6).

North Catholic 2, Deer Lakes 1 — Brody Kennedy and Justin Garvey both scored to stake the Trojans (10-1-1, 8-1-1 in WPIAL Section 1-2A) to a 2-0 lead before they had to play with only 10 players on the field for the final half hour of play.

North Catholic hasn’t lost a match since Aug. 26, a 3-0 defeat against the Lancers.

Girls volleyball

Maddy Dehart had 13 kills, three aces and two blocks as A-C Valley downed Union in four sets. Malia Page added 10 kills, three aces and three digs for the Falcons, who won by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-11.

Moniteau 3, Karns City 1 — Emily Matz had five aces, 10 kills, six digs and three blocks for the Warriors, who won by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-12. Lily Staab added nine kills and an ace.

Seneca Valley 3, North Hills 0 — The Raiders improved to 5-4 (2-3 WPIAL Section 1-3A)

Girls tennis

Monique Polas, Ella Marley and Alvera Chokshi had singles wins as Seneca Valley downed Moon 5-0. The pairings of Jenna Muenck and Autumn Zacherl and Alivia Metz and Imogen Culley also had victories.
