High school roundup: Brendan Eicher, Zari Golojuh lead Butler to top 10 finishes at PIAA Foundation Invite
Junior Brendan Eicher finished fifth individually in a time of 16:22.80 and led Butler boys cross country to an eighth-place finish with 269 points in the Class 3A race in Saturday’s PIAA Foundation Invitational at Hershey’s Parkview Cross Country Course.
Sophomore Zari Golojuh led the Tornado girls with a 29th-place finish (20:55.10), as Butler came in ninth in 3A with 344 points.
Ethan Thomas finished 29th for the boys in 17:09.20. Seneca Valley’s boys finished 12th (383 points) and were led by Riley McGee’s 17:15 for 35th. Mars finished 35th, with Colton Rearick pacing the team (17:54.80, 74th).
Behind Golojuh for the Tornado girls was Macie McLister, who finished in 21:26.10 for 47th. The Raiders finished 21st (568 points), with Elyse Cilik finishing 101st in 22:25.80. Mars did not field a full team but was led by Hailey Long, who crossed the finish line in 20:09.70 for 18th.
In the Class 2A races, North Catholic’s boys finished seventh (225 points) as Jack Steineman (16:29.90) came in second and Tyler Carroll (16:56.50) finished seventh. The girls finished third (105 points), as Caroline Sell (20:40.60) led the pack in 13th; the Trojanettes had their top five finish inside the top 32.
Noah Weiland led Karns City’s individual boys with a 41st-place finish in 18:42.20 in 1A; Megan Hartle led on the girls side with a 24:39.90 for 89th.
Sharon Blue Devil Invitational — The Slippery Rock girls finished third with 100 points in a weekend invite, led by Kasey Yeager’s 11th-place finish in 20:23. Lydia Springirth came in 16th in 20:45.
The boys finished 16th (409 points), led by Hunter Dorflinger’s 17:41 for 21st.
Moniteau beat A-C Valley 3-2 as Sayge Brunst led the Warriors with 10 kills and five aces.
Moniteau won by set scores of 25-18, 13-25, 19-25, 25-10, 15-12. Charlotte Thompson had eight kills and seven blocks, and Emily Matz added seven kills and six blocks. Lily Staab served three aces to go along with six kills.
Hannah Dailey, Phoebe Brandon and Carleigh Lucas all scored in Karns City’s 3-2 road win over Berkshire. Aubrey Price recorded an assist.
Justin Garvey scored two goals, and Angelo Amelio tallied another in North Catholic’s 3-1 win at Shady Side Academy. Matthew Liscinsky and Arthur Mendonca each had an assist.
