School districts deserve recognition for innovation
Two Butler County school districts have been honored for their approach to education, setting up their students for a bright future.
As we learned in the Friday, Sept. 19, edition of the Butler Eagle, Butler Area and Seneca Valley school districts were both made part of Digital Promise’s League of Innovative Schools. The league recognizes educational excellence and highlights the best programs schools have to offer.
Butler Area was included in part because of its “Welcome to Butler’s Neighborhood” project, in which students used art, science and technology to help transform Butler’s landscape while building new skills and increasing civic pride.
Seneca Valley was honored for the $63 million Ehrman Crest Elementary and Middle School, built in 2022, which includes features such as harmonic walls used for educating students about sound and energy, and an art wing that doubles as a storm shelter.
It’s excellent to see local school districts be included in a group of the most innovative schools in the entire world. Started in 2011, Digital Promise has worked with more than 4 million students and 180,000 teachers across 173 districts and in 27 countries.
It’s good to have recognition that innovative educational ideas can and do come from anywhere and we think both districts should be proud to be included.
