Butler school district, police look into football game threat
Butler Area School District reached out to district families after a secondary student posted “a threatening comment” related to Friday, Sept. 19’s, home football game.
In an email sent out to families, White said all students who were believed to be connected to the threat had been interviewed and their parents were contacted. The email said police are continuing to investigate.
White said tonight’s football game will proceed with additional police officers present “out of an abundance of caution.”
“Please know that the district takes all reports of threats very seriously. When appropriate, we will pursue disciplinary action in accordance with the student code of conduct and Pennsylvania state law,” White said.
White attached to his email a letter from Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger from last school year outlining specific actions law enforcement must take when threats are made.
“As always, if you see or hear concerning statements involving our schools or students, please report them immediately to the district and to local law enforcement. If you have any questions or concerns about school safety, please reach out to your child’s principal,” White said.
Butler has a home football game tonight against Westinghouse.
Knoch School District also put out a statement Friday afternoon saying the district was aware of a threat, but it was not aimed at Knoch.
