Police: Butler man shot round while inside apartment

A Butler man is accused of shooting a firearm near a man in his apartment.

Dustin Zachary Clark, 25, was charged Saturday, Sept. 13, with two felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of firearm discharge inside a building and misdemeanor reckless endangerment following a Thursday incident in a North Main Street apartment.

Police interviewed a man who lived in the apartment who said Clark had knocked on his door around 11:30 a.m. Police said Clark was looking for an associate who was not at the residence.

After a brief conversation, the man in the apartment turned away toward his bedroom while Clark was still standing near the front doorway. Police said when the man turned back around, he saw Clark pointing a firearm at him.

Clark fired and the bullet hit the ground near the man’s feet inside the apartment. Police said the round landed so close to the man that he thought he may have “lost a toe.”

Police said Clark turned around and ran after firing the round and the man in the apartment ran to the door and locked it.

Police searched Clark’s home but did not find the firearm. Clark had also visited the apartment the previous morning acting erratic and paranoid, police said.

Clark’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. Sept. 29 before District Judge William Fullerton. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on $150,000 bail.
