AAA holding plate replacement event

AAA is helping local residents replace peeling license plates before they get ticketed by police.

AAA East Central said in a news release it is hosting an event Tuesday, Sept. 16, for drivers to request and order new plates. Drivers can request replacement plates when an authorized PennDOT or law enforcement representative determines the plate is illegible. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AAA’s Butler office at 138 Clearview Circle.

According to PennDOT, a registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more characters on the plate cannot be recognized from 50 feet away or if the plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity. Drivers can be pulled over and fined up to $100 for having a license plate that is deemed illegible.
