High school sports roundup: Butler’s Mason reaches 1,000 assists; SV boys soccer wins

Butler’s Julia Mason dished out 43 assists, giving her more than 1,000 for her varsity career, in the Golden Tornado’s 3-1 girls volleyball victory over visiting North Hills on Thursday.

Ashlan Tosadori contributed 12 kills and 18 digs to the win, Raina Lewandowski 19 kills.

Brynn Cornibe totaled 13 kills and three blocks and Taylor Simon 34 digs.

Mars 3, Highlands 0 — Cecilia Christy dropped 13 kills and Rylee Wooldridge eight to power this sweep.

Gabi Weidemann tallied 31 assists and Kate Ashbaugh five aces and seven digs for the Planets.

Mars won the match by scores of 25-17, 25-6 and 25-20.

A-C Valley 3, Karns City 0 — The Falcons prevailed by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-21.

The Gremlins (3-3) received six kills from Regan Schmoll, four aces and three kills from Abigail Galan.

Statistics for A-C Valley were not submitted.

Mercer 3, Moniteau 1 — Sayge Brunst, Danilynn Wallace and Lily Staab combined for 25 kills for the Warriors.

Clarion-Limestone 3, Union 0 — The Damsels fell on the road by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-16.

Lilly Hayden tallied 17 digs in defeat while Riley Kriebel contributed three kills, six assists and eight digs.

Boys soccer

Michael Pokrzywinski and Jake Prex both scored for Seneca Valley in the Raiders’ 2-1 victory over Pine-Richland at NexTier Stadium.

SV improved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in WPIAL Section 3-4A.

West Shamokin 4, Karns City 3 — Scoring for the Gremlins were Mason Bell, Xavier Bartoe and Davin Henry.

Assists came from Colton Christie and Aaron Wimer.

Girls golf

At Suncrest Golf Course, Elise Wadas’ 38 led Mars to a 161-182 victory against Blackhawk.

Carding 41s for the Planets were Makenna Myler, Addison Pangonis and Taylor Orosz.

Boys golf

In Freeport’s 195-209 win over Knoch, the Yellowjackets received a 37 from Ethan Crooks, 38 from Aiden Bauman and 39 from Max Zigo at Buffalo Golf Course.

Freeport improved to 13-1 on the season.

Aaron Voltz and David Breese both carded a 40 for Knoch.

Seneca Valley 190, Mars 194 — Anthony Cardosi fired a 35 at Cranberry Highlands to pace this win for the Raiders. Josh Marquardt added a 39 in the win.

KSAC mega match — Joe Rapp fired a 40 for A-C Valley/Union, placing runner-up at Wanango Country Club near Oil City.

Brennan Kelly’s 43 paced Moniteau, which placed second in the team standings with 227 strokes. Joey O'Donnell shot 44 for Karns City.

Keystone finished in first place with 210 strokes and featured the top individual golfer in Sean Karg (35).

North Allegheny 177, Butler 187 — The Golden Tornado (10-4, 7-4) had three golfers shoot in the 30s — Levi McClellan (36), Blake Scott (37) and Henry Bortmes (38).

Girls tennis

In the WPIAL Section 2-3A singles tournament at North Allegheny High School, Butler’s No. 1 Laini Spohn beat Shaler's Grace Grabowski 10-2 in the first round. Then she fell to Pine-Richland's Sonaya Arora 10-3.

Butler’s Cassie Busler lost to Montour's top player 10-1 in the first round.

Seneca Valley sophomore Ella Marley won her first contest 10-6 against Moon’s top player in a match that lasted 96 minutes. Marley then fell 10-0 against NA’s best player.

SV junior Jenna Muenck lost her opening match 10-2 to Pine-Richland’s No. 1.
