Ronald Ouellette
Ronald Gilbert Ouellette, 96, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, at Sherwood Oaks in Cranberry Township. He had been a resident at Sherwood Oaks for the past 20 years.
Ron was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 31, 1929, the son of the late Gilbert and Elmore (O’Hara) Ouellette.
Ron graduated from Denby High School in Detroit and continued his education at the University of Michigan. After college, he began a long career in the steel industry, working for American Steel and Wire, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel. He met his wife of 49 years, Lois (Schram) Ouellette, while working at their offices in the GM Building in Detroit.
The U.S. Army called Ron to Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1951, but he kept up his correspondence with Lois. Upon his return home he resumed his career, and married Lois on April 16, 1955.
Ron was passionate about many things, and his family came first. Lois and Ron bought their first Holiday Rambler travel trailer in the early 1960s so that the family could spend plenty of time together. With sons, Dan and Mike, the family spent weekends and vacations camping, canoeing and visiting many picturesque spots around the U.S. and Canada. Despite many travels, most weekends found the family at a small campground near Bedford, Pa., which was the family’s favorite spot.
Ron moved to Pittsburgh in 1965, where he continued to work for U.S. Steel. He quickly became an ardent Steelers fan, a devotion which continued for the rest of his life. Ron loved singing and was active in barbershop quartets and with his church choir in Detroit. In Pittsburgh, he was an active member of the choir at Highland Presbyterian Church and the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Shortly after moving to Pittsburgh, he became a member of the Triangle Singers, and later a member of the Pittsburgh Concert Chorale.
Ron left U.S. Steel in 1980, to begin an independent consulting firm in Pittsburgh with a colleague. After 15 successful years, Ron and his colleague closed their business and Ron worked as a real estate agent for a couple of years before completely retiring. Ron and Lois continued to travel after retirement and raise their Samoyed dogs. In recent times, Ron would share his time and his travels with his Samoyed, Blitzen.
Ron will be lovingly missed by his two sons, Daniel (Chris) and Michael (Jami); his brother Robert; and three grandchildren Melissa, Christopher and Nicolas.
