High school sports roundup: Butler cross country sweeps tri-meet against Seneca Valley, Pine-Richland

Butler cross country turned in a productive outing Tuesday afternoon.

For the Golden Tornado boys, Brendan Eicher and Ethan Thomas finished first and second overall, respectively, in a meet against Seneca Valley and host Pine-Richland.

Eicher turned in a time of 16:38.60 while Thomas came in at 16:46.20. Those efforts helped Butler defeat the Raiders (20-35) and Rams (21-38). SV’s 25-34 defeat of Pine-Richland was led by Riley McGee’s fifth-place finish of 16:57.40.

Zari Golojuh placed second overall to pace Butler girls victories against SV (26-31) and P-R (23-34). She ran a time of 20:35.21, followed by third place and teammate Macie McLister (20:41.80).

SV defeated the Rams (24-37), with Elyse Cilik taking fourth place (21:14.60).

Pine-Richland’s Teagan Yurocko won the race with a time of 20:31.30.

Boys golf

At Butler Country Club, Aaron Voltz’s 38 aided Knoch’s 210-225 defeat of Armstrong.

Jake Jones carded a 40 and Colt Sprankle 41 for the Knights (5-8).

District 10, Region 2 — At Tanglewood Golf Course, Slippery Rock’s fifth-place, 339-stroke effort was led by Isaac McCandless’ 81.

Wilmington won as a team with 320 strokes. Its top golfer, Santino Toscano, finished first with a 75.

KSAC mega match — Moniteau placed runner-up, just one stroke behind champion Keystone, 216-217, at Aubrey's Dubbs Dred.

The Warriors’ top five featured no score higher than a 47, including Isaac Book’s 40.

A-C Valley/Union’s Joe Rapp was second in the individual standings with a 37. Karns City’s Joey O'Donnell shot 41.

Keystone’s Braden Baylor earned medalist honors with a 34.

Boys soccer

Spencer Valasek scored twice and added an assist in Freeport’s 10-0 win over Valley.

Henry Good earned the shutout in net for the Yellowjackets (4-2, 2-2).

North Catholic 3, Shady Side Academy 1 — Angelo Amelio scored twice for the Trojans (5-1-1, 3-1), and Gabe Nonino found the net once.

Justin Garvey, Gannon Pappas and Arthur Mendonca contributed assists.

Girls golf

Makenna Myler fired a 44 at Hiland Golf Course to lead Mars to a 191-208 win against Butler.

Elise Wadas added a 46 for the Planets. Rylee Gage carded a 41 for the Golden Tornado (2-9, 1-9).

North Catholic 168, Ellwood City 218 — Riley Kontul had a 35 for the Trojanettes at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club.

Girls volleyball

After dropping the first set, Slippery Rock rebounded to post a 3-1 victory against Wilmington.

Adi Novad and Madison Romanovich both had 10 kills. Lexi Caldwell totaled 37 assists and five aces.

Slippery Rock prevailed by scores of 26-28, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18.

DuBois Central Catholic 3, Moniteau 0 — The Warriors put up a fight in this loss to the Cardinals by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.

Emily Matz (10) and Sayge Brunst (eight) combined for 18 kills, and teammate Maddy Eury contributed 12 assists.

North Clarion 3, A-C Valley 1 — Malia Page tallied 10 kills and five aces in this loss for the Falcons.

Maddy Dehart added 10 kills and six blocks; Lexi Altman dished out 25 assists.

The Wolves won the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 25-23.

Union 3, Curwensville 0 — Haley Corle bagged nine kills, four blocks and three aces in the Damsels’ 26-24, 25-12, 25-14 victory.

Mars 3, Hampton 0 — Cecilia Christy dropped 15 kills and three blocks for the Planets.

Rylee Wooldridge added 12 kills and 12 digs, and Gabi Weidemann had 35 assists and 10 digs.

Brookville 3, Karns City 1 — The Gremlins fell to the Raiders by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 20-25 and 25-19.

Addison Fox tallied 13 assists and 15 digs for KC (3-2). Regan Schmoll posted nine kills and seven blocks.
