Week 3 football roundup: Mars blocks North Hills’ last-second FG; Glenn, Freeport rock Quaker Valley
Mars continued its hot start with another dramatic, close win Friday night at North Hills, holding on for a 13-10 win to improve to 3-0.
Quarterback Colin Yursinec hit receiver Gabe Hein on a curl route, and Hein took it 34 yards to the end zone to give the Planets a three-point lead with 4:15 to play.
But North Hills (0-3) marched down the field and appeared to score a walk-off touchdown with no time left, only for the play to be called back on an ineligible-man-downfield penalty. That set up a Jayden Mitchell field goal attempt on an untimed down to force overtime.
Mars’ special teams proved special, deflecting the kick wide left to seal a comeback victory, the second week in a row its won by four or fewer points.
