10:09: Karns City loses, leaving five unbeaten teams left
DuBois held on to beat the Gremlins 56-42, meaning Butler County now has five unbeaten teams left: Butler, Freeport, Mars, North Catholic and Union/A-C Valley.
Coverage from each game will publish later tonight. Refresh butlereagle.com/section/sports throughout the night.
10:01: Karns City in trouble late
After forcing a turnover on downs, pass-first DuBois broke off a back-breaking run 70 yards to re-extend its lead 56-42 with 1:42 left, putting the Gremlins at risk of losing for the first time this season.
9:53: Untimed North Hills FG attempt sails wide, Mars wins
Mars remains undefeated in dramatic fashion after North Hills kicker Jayden Mitchell missed a field goal wide left; the Planets hold on 13-10. Mitchell’s attempt, after making one earlier in the game, came on an untimed down. NH seemed to score a game-winning touchdown, but a flag nullified the score and forced Mitchell onto the field to try to force overtime.
9:48: KC gets back within a score
Cole Johnston took the rock in himself from inside the 5 to get the Gremlins (2-0) back within seven, down 49-42 with 7:15 left to play. DuBois had scored 21 straight before the score.
9:40: Mars goes up late on big play by Hein
Gabe Hein took what looked like a pass off a quick curl route about 40 yards (we’re watching the broadcast) to put Mars up on North Hills 13-10 with 4:15 left to play. Hein, the Sacred Heart commit, shed a few would-be tacklers to reach the end zone.
The Planets are trying to join the likes of Union/A-C Valley, Butler, North Catholic and Freeport at 3-0 (Karns City trails 49-35 in the fourth quarter).
9:34: North Catholic ices game with safety
A second safety in one night? Why, yes! This one’s courtesy of the Trojans, who sacked Blackhawk’s QB with 1:42 left to play to extend their lead to 65-49. It’s the second week in a row North has eclipsed 60 points, and it’s averaging 60.3 through three weeks.
9:29: Knoch falls after nearly completing comeback
The Knights fell to 0-3, but not without nearly pulling off a big win. Down 17-10, Knoch stormed back in the fourth quarter to take an 18-17 lead after a two-point conversion, only for the Foxes to drive the length of the field for a game-winning field goal with 9 seconds left.
9:27: Butler rolls to 3-0
The defense gave up 34 points, but Mark Klemz and the Tornado’s run-heavy offense had plenty in the tank to make it a 3-0 start, the first in 23 years. Klemz scored the final TD on an 11-yard run with 1:21 left in the game.

9:25: Fox Chapel kicks FG to go ahead late
Knoch trails 20-18 after Fox Chapel drove the length of the field to kick a short field goal with nine seconds left. The 0-2 Knights allowed a long pass of about 40 yards to set up the go-ahead field goal.
9:07: Where do undefeated teams stand in second half?
It’s gonna be a good night for most of Butler County’s 2-0 teams, it appears. Butler leads Meadville 41-27, North Catholic is up 48-35 on Blackhawk and Freeport leads Quaker Valley big 42-7 in the fourth. Karns City leads early third quarter 35-28, and that game’s a toss-up still. Mars is the only team at risk of losing its first game, down 7-0 to North Hills late third quarter.
9:04: Big man Moniteau touchdown!
Senior Jeremiah Donaldson got a carry from the 1-yard line and plowed in to put the Warriors ahead 35-0 mid-fourth. Donaldson is a offensive and defensive lineman. He was subbed in after an Aiden Shakley run to the 1, and got a big celebration from his teammates when he scored.
8:53: Moniteau extends lead on deep bomb
A Weston Cook to Blaine Jamison connection results in a long touchdown throw to put the Warriors up 29-0 early in the fourth quarter. According to reporter Aidan Treu, the game is now in a running clock despite not reaching the 35-point threshold.
8:47: Freeport’s Glenn scores again, stats from Karns City at half
RB Amos Glenn bounced a pistol-formation handoff around the right tackle and scooted into the end zone from about 5- yards out to put the Yellowjackets up 35-7 in the third quarter. Freeport cruising in this one.
Some halftime stats from Karns City-DuBois, per John Enrietto: KC’s Cole Johnston two TDs rushing, one passing. KC 267 yards of offense. DuBois QB trey wingard 157 passing, two touchdowns.
8:36: Heginbotham puts Karns City up before half
The final game to reach the intermission, Karns City leads DuBois in a shootout 35-28 with 29 seconds left. Owen Heginbotham broke off a 40-yard touchdown run, breaking a few tackles in the process, to put the Gremlins (2-0) ahead.
Most other games have begun the third quarter.
8:25: Butler up big at half
Some stats from our boots on the ground as Butler controls Meadville 28-14:
Halftime: 🌪️ 28, 🐶 14
— Brendan Howe (@bybrendanhowe) September 6, 2025
Butler:
• QB N. Baggetta — 9 car., 101 yds., 3 TDs; 6/8, 93 yds., TD
• RB M. Klemz — 3 car., 32 yds.
• WR T. Pino — 2 rec., 48 yds.
Meadville:
• QB J. Thompson — 2/6, 59 yds., TD, 2 INT
• RB J. Lawrence — 12 car., 106 yds., TD
8:15: Moniteau heads to break up big, but injury scare ends half
A Bucktail player was caught up in a pile and injured with a few seconds left before halftime, according to reporter Aidan Treu and photographer Rob McGraw. After several minutes, the player was carried off the field on a stretcher. Bucktail knelt to run off the final seconds as Moniteau leads 22-0, and the marching band took the field for its halftime performance.
8:04: Knoch tied at half, offense struggling
Per reporter Derek Pyda: “Knoch’s scoring drive was 51 yards.” The other Knights drives have gone for 25 combined yards. Knoch is seeking its first win of the year.
7:58: Paga scores to extend Freeport lead, North Catholic up before halftime
A nice snag by WR Bryson Page on a red zone slant now has the Yellowjackets ahead of Quaker Valley 28-7 late in the half.
And North Catholic just punched it in to go up 28-21 with 9 seconds left before halftime.
7:55: Everything’s coming up Milhouse for Moniteau
A safety and now a fumble recovery for a touchdown on a bad punt! Yep, the Warriors look like they’re on their way to a 2-1 start as Bucktail is struggling to move the ball with any consistency. The Bucks’ snap on a punt sailed well over the punters’ head, and after the ball got kicked around, Kayne Scott scooped it up around the 10-yard line and ran it the rest of the way to make it 15-0.
7:52: Gremlins tied after 1Q
Cole Johnston and Hunter Scherer both scored rushing touchdowns in what’s proving to be a tight game against DuBois, as anticipated. Karns City is tied 14-14 after 12 minutes of action.
7:47: Shakely punches it in, Moniteau extends lead
And right off the free kick, Moniteau is now up 8-0 late in the second quarter. The Warriors got into the red zone quickly, and full back Aidan Shakley dived in from about the 2-yard line for the touchdown.
7:45: A safety for Moniteau!
That’s one way to get the defense involved. The Warriors had Bucktail backed up after a false start inside their 1-yard line inside five minutes left in the half. That’s when the defensive line punched through what looked like an almost-asleep offensive line to stuff a rush attempt about 3 yards behind the goal line to make it 2-0 Moniteau.
7:33: Seneca Valley can’t convert on fourth down
The Raiders are keeping things tight against Pine-Richland and went for a gutsy fourth-and-1 play inside their 30. But a screen play fell short on a nice tackle by a Rams linebacker in open space. SV down 7-3 inside two minutes left in the first quarter.
7:31: Moniteau trying to take lead before half
From reporter Aidan Treu after the first quarter as Moniteau and Bucktail are tied 0-0: “Moniteau just missed a few big passes and picked off bucktail in the end zone on fourth down.”
7:10: Freeport can’t capitalize on big punt return
Freeport’s defense stood up QV, then returned a punt 94 yards to the goal line. But the Yellowjackets can’t capitalize and extend the lead after RB Amos Glenn fumbled the ball at the goal line on second down. Quakers take over once again.
7:07: Quaker Valley take over after Freeport turnover
Uh oh ... The Yellowjackets pounced early to take a 7-0 lead, but a fumble inside the Quakers’ 30 gives the ball right back to QV with a chance to tie the game in the first quarter.
7:02: Butler ready to go against Meadville
The Tornado are trying to start 3-0 for the first time in nearly 25 years. It’s been an impressive start, as Brendan Howe, who is covering the game tonight, reported on earlier this week HERE.
