Leroy ‘Sam’ Barlett

Leroy Samuel “Sam” Barlett, 78, of St. Petersburg, Clarion County, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at the Clarion Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, with his family by his side.

Sam was born in Richland Township, Clarion County, on Jan. 24, 1947, and was the son of the late William J. and Bertha “Betty” Martin Barlett.

Sam was a 1965 graduate of the Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School in Emlenton. Mr. Barlett proudly served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 through 1969 and was an honorably discharged veteran. Mr. Barlett spent much of his service at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., and the 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand.

Sam was Protestant by faith, and married his wife, Midge I. (Verner) Barlett, of 52 years, on Sept. 21, 1970, at the St. Petersburg Church of the Nazarene where he and his family regularly attended.

Mr. Barlett retired in 2002, following 32 years of service with the Indspec Chemical Corporation in Petrolia.

Sam greatly enjoyed spending time in his garden, having long conversations with a number of very close friends, going on bicycle rides and yard-sale adventures, hunting, fishing and, most importantly, loving his granddaughters.

Surviving are two sons, Jarrod J. Barlett and his wife, Sarah, of Ford City, and Earl E. Barlett and his wife, Erin, of Parker; two granddaughters, Leah C. Barlett and Grace E. Barlett; two sisters, Dorothy Sloan and her husband, Don, of Emlenton, and Marlene Reisinger and her husband, Louie, of Rockland; a sister-in-law, Connie Barlett, of Florida; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Midge, and brothers, James P. Barlett and William S. Barlett.

BARTLETT — Family and close friends of Leroy Samuel “Sam” Barlett, who died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at HILE FUNERAL HOME, 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery.
