William Tatters
William John Tatters, of Fenelton and Sugarcreek Township, passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, at the age of 61.
Born Feb. 29, 1964, in Fenelton, William was a lifelong resident of the area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Raymond Tatters, whose love and guidance helped shape the man he became.
William was a devoted father to his daughter, Tiffany Cibula Tatters, and a proud grandfather to Ava Marie Matassa, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Joan Carver and her husband, Craig; Lynne Baer; Roy Tatters and his wife, Sandy; Mark Tatters; and Tia Tatters.
A passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities, William dedicated much of his life to standing up for those who often went unheard. In recognition of his tireless efforts, he was honored with an advocacy award for his contributions to disability rights — a testament to his unwavering commitment to justice and inclusion. His sense of justice and deep empathy left a lasting impact on many.
He also had a lifelong love of rock ’n’ roll music and found freedom on the back of a motorcycle. Whether he was sharing music, riding the open road or spending time with family, William lived with authenticity and heart.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his strong convictions and the love he gave so freely to those around him. His legacy lives on in those he loved and those he helped.
TATTERS — A graveside service for William John Tatters, who died Friday, Aug. 29, 2025, will be held at noon Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Union First Presbyterian Cemetery in Cowansville.
Memorial contributions may be made to any charity that assists those with disabilities.
