Third person charged in Cranberry Township Walmart theft, wallet stolen from woman’s backpack

A third person was charged Friday, Aug. 29, in a Cranberry Township wallet theft where two Florida women and a man attempted to purchase $5,000 in electronics, police said.

Diego Ricardo Popa, 19, who didn’t have an address listed in court documents, was charged with one felony count each of dealing in unlawful funds, access device fraud and conspiracy to commit access device fraud; and two misdemeanor counts of theft following the Aug. 14 incident.

Oana Romana Dumitru, 43, and Andreia Dunca, 20, both of Orlando, Fla., were previously charged in the incident.

Police said while the two women distracted a couple in the Walmart cosmetic section, Popa allegedly unzipped a woman’s backpack in her shopping cart and removed a wallet.

The wallet contained an American Airlines advantage credit card with a $12,500 limit.

Police said the three then went to Best Buy and purchased a computer for $2,383.94 with the stolen funds. Police said a second purchase of $2,499 was also attempted but declined.
