High school sports roundup: Karns City soccer’s Colton Christie, Butler’s Noah Ernst score game-winners
Colton Christie’s second goal in Tuesday’s game came on a penalty kick in overtime, lifting Karns City to a 3-2 boys soccer win against Central Clarion.
Mason Bell also scored for the Gremlins. Bell and Christie assisted each other on their respected goals. Brock Dittman made 20 saves for KC.
Butler 2, West Mifflin 1 — Noah Ernst scored the game-winner after Cullin Forbes found the net earlier in the game for the Golden Tornado.
Jude Perhacs assisted on both tallies.
Freeport 4, Armstrong 1 — Ryan Sutara had a hat trick for the Yellowjackets, while Liam Dunn, Nate Watson and Easton Smith each contributed an assist.
Carson Rowley also found the net in the win, and Henry Good stopped seven shots.

Butler 180, Pine-Richland 188 — The Golden Tornado topped a strong Rams squad at Slippery Rock Golf Club.
Butler (8-3, 5-3) received a 34 from Boden Lenyk and a pair of 35s from Levi McClellan and Henry Bortmes 35.
For Pine-Richland, Sam Schneck and Cooper Hockenberry both carded a 36.
District 10, Region 2 — Slippery Rock’s Isaac McCandless finished in a three-way tie for second place in this mega match by shooting a 79 at Grove City Country Club. The Rockets placed fifth out of seven teams with 339 strokes.
Wilmington’s Santino Toscano placed first individually with a 75. Hickory was the top team with 327.
Mars 187, New Castle 226 — At Pheasant Ridge, Lukas Singh’s 34 was the top highlight for the Planets.
Jackson Geiger (36), Jack Weaver (37) and Landon Mitro (39) also had strong rounds.
Slippery Rock’s girls earned the first four places in an 18-41 victory over Sharon.
Junior Kasey Yeager led the way, finishing first in 22 minutes flat, followed by teammates Leah Perez, Lylah Robare and Lydia Springirth.
In the boys meet, Hunter Doerflinger’s runner-up effort of 19:09 paced the Rockets in a 25-30 loss to the Tigers. Zach Geisner placed fourth overall.
Moniteau placed second behind Cranberry with 140 strokes in a District 9 mega match at Hi-Level Golf Course.
Hayden Hilliard paced the Warriors with a 44.
Maddy Albee and Kennedy Kinney had a 49 for Karns City and A-C Valley, respectively.
Butler dropped a 3-2 decision to North Hills. The doubles tandems of Sophia Kingsley/Cassie Sklencar and Devan Christofano/Noel Ernst earned Butler’s victories.
Butler moved its record to 4-0 with a sweep of host Fox Chapel.
Julia Mason tallied 28 assists and four service aces for the Golden Tornado, who prevailed by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13.
Ashlan Tosadori posted seven kills and 17 digs in the win, and Brynn Cornibe had seven kills.
North Clarion 3, Union 0 — The Damsels fell to the Wolves by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-21.
Lilly Hayden tallied 16 digs, and Brooke Hileman had five kills in defeat.
Cochranton 3, Slippery Rock 2 — The Rockets lost this seesaw affair by set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 19-25 and 16-14.
Adi Novad had 11 kills and 10 digs for Slippery Rock. Ashley Ragan added six kills and five blocks.
