James ‘Fred’ Sharrar

James Frederick “Fred” Sharrar, 94, of Evans City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025.

Born June 12, 1931, in Callery, he was the son of the late Carl and Marion Virginia (Snodgrass) Sharrar.

Fred was a loyal member of Westminster United Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Evans City High School, where he played football and basketball, as well as in local baseball leagues. Fred was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War.

He was a man of many talents. He worked as a self-employed mechanic in Evans City for 40 years. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also spent his time involved in multiple organizations. He was a member of the Shanty Point Hunting Camp and a member of the Harmony Lodge No. 429.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Jim (Kim) Sharrar of Evans City, Jeff (Karen) Sharrar of Evans City, Jack (Karen) Sharrar of Harmony and Matt (Beth) Sharrar of Tennessee; his six grandchildren, Glenn, Sarah, Robert, Travis, Leah and Sam; his six great-grandchildren, Madison, Jackson, Sage, Shay, Emmett and Deacon; his brother, John (Cindi) Sharrar; and his dog, Pip, his best friend.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Hackett Sharrar.

SHARRAR — Friends and family of James Frederick “Fred” Sharrar, who died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 116 E. Main St., Evans City.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Pastor Reid Moon officiating.

Fred will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Fred’s honor to the Harmony-Evans City VFW Post 499, 408 N. Washington St., Evans City, PA 16033.
