Shellie Rodgers
Shellie Anne Olenic Rodgers, 65, of Butler, and Cypress, Texas, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, in Texas.
Born Sept. 9, 1959, in Butler, she was a daughter of George Olenic and the late Wanda Hilliard Olenic.
A 1977 graduate of Butler High School, Shellie met her husband, Gene Rodgers Jr., in school, and the couple dated for 10 years before marrying on Nov. 15, 1986.
Shellie launched her professional retail career at the age of 16, when she went to work at Fashion Bug in the original Butler Mall with her mother, Wanda. Shellie eventually left Fashion Bug and moved on to increasingly responsible managerial roles with major retailers, including Liz Claiborne.
In 2014, Shellie was hired by the TJX Corporation to manage retail locations for Home Goods in the Pittsburgh area. In 2016, she was promoted to district manager of the expanding Houston, Texas, market, where she opened 10 new stores and helped to open countless more in other cities.
She had many interests. Cooking and sharing her delicious dishes with family and friends was important to her and gave her pleasure. She enjoyed reading books, landscaping, interior design, decorating for Christmas and vacationing at the beach in Naples, Fla. She treasured spending time with her beloved great-nieces and watching sports on TV with her husband, Gene.
She also loved the hours she spent with her two special cats, Rosie and Miley, in Texas, and her favorite time was with her fur babies, Sammy, Jasper and Alex, when she was back home in Butler.
Shellie was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Butler.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Gene Rodgers Jr., of Butler; her father, George Olenic, of Butler; her brother, Gary Olenic, of Florida; her sister, Lori Harvey, of Florida; and two nephews, Austin Harvey and his wife, Stephanie, and Cole Harvey and his wife, Nikki, and their children, Kaia and Fallon.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Hilliard Olenic.
