High school sports roundup: Butler girls volleyball continues roll; Mars boys soccer wins close

Raina Lewandowski had 13 kills and seven digs, Taylor Simon had 15 digs and Butler’s girls vollyeball team downed Laurel in straight sets on Thursday night. The scores of the match were 25-12, 25-23 and 25-17.

The Golden Tornado moved to 3-0 on the season.

Brookville 3, A-C Valley 1 — Maddy Dehart had 11 kills and eight blocks, but the Falcons lost by scores of 25-21, 25-6, 25-19 and 25-13.

Keystone 3, Karns City 1 — Naomi Venesky and Addison Fox each had three aces and combined for 21 digs for the Gremlins in the loss. The scores were 12-25, 25-13, 12-25 and 20-25.

Slippery Rock 3, Mohawk 2 — The Rockets moved to 2-0 by set scores of 25-10, 24-26, 25-21, 24-26 and 17-15. Adi Novad had 14 kills and Lexi Caldwell 30 assists.

Moniteau 3, North Clarion 2 — Lily Staab had 12 kills as the Warriors won by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 19-25 and 15-13.

Pine-Richland 3, Mars 1 — Rylee Woolridge had 16 kills for the Planets, who lost the non-conference clash by scores of 25-15, 25-27, 19-25 and 19-25.

Boys soccer

Frank Knezovich deposited the lone goal of Mars’ 1-0 win over Kiski on Thursday. The Planets are now 2-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in section play. They play Pine-Richland at home on Tuesday.

Seneca Valley 5, Norwin 2 — Owen Eastgate notched three goals and Max Gochis and Conner Mackrell added the others for the Raiders.

Redbank Valley 3, Karns City 1 — Trevor Rumbaugh netted the Gremlins’ only goal of the contest, assisted by Josh Peters. Brock Dittman had four saves for Karns City.

Central Catholic 2, Butler 1 — Ryan Conaway had the Golden Tornado’s goal, assisted by Jude Perhacs.

North Catholic 5, Highlands 2 — Arthur Mendonca’s hat trick led the way for the Trojans.

Girls soccer

Hanna Dailey and Phoebe Brandon had hat tricks, while Carleigh Lucas and Bree O’Donnell added goals in a 8-1 Karns City win over Redbank Valley.

Boys golf

Freeport moved to 9-0 (7-0) with a 210-215 win over Riverview on Thursday at Green Oaks Country Club. Ethan Crooks shot a 38, while Aiden Bauman carded a 41.

Seneca Valley 194, Butler 199 — Anthony Cardosi (35) and Josh Marquardt (39) had sub-40 scores for the Raiders at Cranberry Highlands. Levi McClellan, Anthony Trombatt and Boden Lenyk all had 39 for the Golden Tornado (7-3, 4-3).

Pine-Richland 190, Knoch 221 — Aaron Voltz led the Knights (2-7) with a 35 at Treesdale Country Club.

Girls golf

Regan Gallagher and Jayci Kinney both shot 47 for Seneca Valley during a 193-226 win over Butler at Connoquenessing Country Club. Rylee Gage carded a 43 for the Golden Tornado (2-6, 1-6).

Pine-Richland 166, Mars 185 — Makenna Myler shot a 44 for the Planets. Elise Wadas had a 45.

Girls tennis

Both Mars doubles pairings won their matches, but the Planets lost 3-2 against North Hills.

North Catholic 5, Ellis 0 — Evelyn Marche, Macaria Stall and Anna Ravotti had singles wins for the Trojanettes.
