RIMERSBURG — A fast start for Union/A-C Valley guaranteed nothing, but it put Redbank Valley in a hole the Bulldogs were never able to fully recover from.
Union/A-C Valley scored touchdowns on its first two drives for a 14-0 lead, then withstood Redbank’s rally in posting a 26-22 football victory Thursday at Vidunas Stadium.
“We talked about bending but not breaking,” said Falcon Knights running back/linebacker Max Gallagher, who rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns. “We knew they would make some big plays, but we just had to recover.”
Redbank star quarterback Braylon Wagner passed for 305 yards and three scores, but was unable to lead a late scoring drive.
The Bulldogs, trailing by four points, took over on downs at their own 27 with 1:19 left in the game. A holding penalty made their task more daunting and Union/A-C Valley held on fourth down, taking over at their 33 with just 15 seconds left in the game.

“If we could have gotten a stop on one of their first two drives, this could have been a different game,” Redbank coach Blane Gold said. “But when you’re trying to come back from down 14-0, that’s tough.”
The Bulldogs (1-1) were on their heels, but a 28-yard scoring pass from Wagner to Easton Magagnotti, followed by a successful two-point attempt, with just 16 seconds left in the first half cut their deficit to six points and gave them momentum entering halftime.
Gallagher took it back, though, early in the third quarter when he raced 46 yards for his second touchdown.
Following another Wagner touchdown pass, this one to Jaxon Huffman, the Falcon Knights (2-0) found themselves leading by just four, 20-16, late in the period.
A 65-yard drive, which included big runs by Micah Kindel and Gallagher was capped by the latter’s 2-yard touchdown with 9:31 left in the game. It was the Falcon Knights’ final score, but enough to keep the Bulldogs at bay.
“We answered Redbank’s first two touchdowns and that showed what our guys are made of,” Union/A-C Valley coach Dan Reed said.
Falcon Knights freshman quarterback Andrew Kifer passed for 130 yards and two interceptions, but he also connected with Parker Bish on a 52-yard touchdown strike for the second touchdown of the game.
“He’s kicking himself for (the interceptions), but he needs to get over it because he has a lot of talent and is going to be really good,” Reed said.
Nick Ielase and Bish both picked off one of Wagner’s passes, with Bish’s theft coming in the end zone.
