Butler man accused of having sex with minor

A Butler man is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl in exchange for marijuana and nicotine.

James Leroy Reed, 29, was charged with six felony counts of statutory sexual assault, one felony count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors; and seven misdemeanor counts of indecent assault following an April 30 ChildLine report.

Police said they received a report that said Reed had been having intercourse with a girl and giving her marijuana.

Police interviewed the girl May 8 and discovered over the course of the investigation Reed had sex with the girl six times. It always occurred at his North Elm Street residence both on his couch and in his bed.

Police also said two other juveniles were in the home during the sexual activity and one walked in on Reed and the girl.

Police interviewed Reed on June 3 and he denied the allegations.

On Aug. 8, police interviewed another juvenile, a 12-year-old girl, who allegedly knew of the sexual activity. She told police the girl involved in the sexual acts had told her in the lunchroom about the activity. The girl also told a friend that Reed would make her perform sexual acts, according to police.

She also told police she went to Reed’s residence with the girl three times. On one occasion, the girl asked her to watch other juveniles in the residence while Reed and the girl left to have intercourse. The girl later walked into the bedroom and saw them having intercourse, police said.

Reed’s preliminary hearing is yet to be scheduled.
