PIAA high school football Week 1: Live updates, scores from Butler, Freeport, Mars, Moniteau, more
It hasn’t felt like football weather most of August, but that doesn’t matter anymore.
The 2025 PIAA football season kicks off tonight across Pennsylvania, and the Butler Eagle is once again is bringing you all the updates, scores, reaction, photos and more from Butler County-area high school football.
Just four of the county’s teams open the season at home, meaning several teams get the chance to play spoiler on the road.
The Eagle will be at four games this week — Butler at Shaler (John Enrietto), Indiana at Freeport (Derek Pyda), Mars at Beaver (Brendan Howe) and Coudersport at Moniteau (Will Pitts). Follow this page for updates and scores from those games and all the rest throughout the night. This year, Eagle sports editor Jake Merda Adams will post updates and highlights along with scores from kickoff to the final whistle.

8:22 p.m.: It’s a scoreless first quarter for Freeport, which is tied with Indiana heading into the next 12 minutes. In other scores, Bethel Park gets the first points against Seneca Valley and takes a 7-0 lead late in the first.
7:11 p.m.: It’s a good start for Yurisinek, according to reporter Brendan Howe. The QB hits Gabe Hein for two early TDs to make it 14-0 just nine minutes in.
7 p.m.: Mars starting Colin Yurisinek at QB, ready to face Beaver
The Planets’ new-look backfield has been settled: it’s QB Colin Yurisinek and RB Ayden Yocum getting the start against Beaver tonight. Eagle reporter Brendan Howe will have updates from the game.
Also, a reminder tonight’s Slippery Rock game is at SRU’s football stadium due to some construction around the high school field. The Rockets take on Fairview at 8 p.m.
