Slippery Rock council to vote on seeking waste collection proposals Sept. 2
SLIPPERY ROCK — At a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19, borough council members agreed to make a motion at the upcoming Sept. 2 council meeting to authorize advertisement of a request for proposal for a new garbage hauling contract.
If council finalizes the terms of the new contract over the next two weeks, it can have the request advertised by Sept. 7, 30 days prior to a bid opening on Oct. 7.
The new contract is a result of recurring complaints by residents with customer service and garbage not getting picked up.
Borough solicitor Rebecca Black said the problem stemmed from confusion over some of the language in the current contract. According to Black, the contract went from being three pages long to being 80 pages long, until it was trimmed down to 40 pages.
“There was just so much in there that’s not totally necessary and I think it adds a lot of confusion. So let’s get the language corrected,” Black said. “Confusion is not fair to either party and it’s not fair to the residents either.”
