High school sports roundup: Mars boys golf’s Jackson Geiger continues strong start in win over Knoch
Mars golfer Jackson Geiger got the better of the course at Butler Country Club, carding a 3-under-par 32 Wednesday to help the Planets defeat Knoch 181-217.
Also turning in strong rounds for Mars were Lukas Singh (35), Jack Weaver (38), Jaxon Hittle (38) and Landon Mitro (38).
Aaron Voltz had a 39 for the Knights (1-4) and Jacob Jones added a 42.
Freeport 192, Highlands 212 — The Yellowjackets (4-0) stayed perfect on the season with this win at Buffalo Golf Course.
Ethan Crooks paced the victory with a 34, and Aiden Bauman had a 38.
For Highlands, Cole Mazza shot 38 and Jack Nitowski a 40, including a hole-in-one on the par-3, 146-yard 17th hole.
District 10, Region 2 — Slippery Rock’s Ryan Parson paced the Rockets with a 78, tying him for fifth place individually in a mega match held at Oak Tree Country Club. His teammate, Hudson Vice, came in with a 79.
Slippery Rock finished in fifth place out of seven teams with 334 strokes. Wilmington placed first with 309 strokes and featured the day’s top golfer in Santino Toscano (69).
Elise Wadas carded a 40 and Makenna Myler a 42 in Mars’ 172-186 victory over Blackhawk at Blackhawk Golf Course.
KSAC mega match No. 3 — Moniteau’s Juliette Brown shot a 51 Wednesday at Stoughton Acres Golf Course, finishing second in the third KSAC mega match of the season. Teammates Hayden Hilliard (53) and Gabriella Shearer (56) finished inside the top five individually, with Union/A-C Valley’s Kennedy Kinney shooting a 55 for fourth.
North Catholic 176, Sewickley Academy 212 — Riley Kontul shot a 37 for the Trojanettes at Pheasant Ridge.
Behind a singles win by Gracie McCarty and tandem victories by Grace Nam/Lacey Kern and Madi Cawley/Grace Getsy, Mars downed Beaver 3-2.
