We should help, not arrest, immigrants
Despite President Donald Trump’s hateful rhetoric about illegal immigrants — that they are all murders, rapists or drugs dealers, or they are tainting the blood of our country — the ones being dragged out of restaurants by his masked agents seem to be people just trying to work hard and make a buck, like the rest of us.
I believe I have a solution that will be a win-win-win for all involved. Instead of spending millions of dollars on detention centers, and arming and masking tens of thousands enforcers to drag people out of their work places, we spend a fraction of that to run background checks on these people.
If there is no criminal history, if they are what they appear to be, hardworking people trying to support themselves and their families, then we spend another small fraction and assist them to “fast track” to legal citizenship.
This way, businesses get workers, workers get a paycheck, taxpayers save millions of dollars and our country retains a small shred of what is left of our dignity.
