Man charged with DUI after going wrong way on Route 422 exit ramp
A Butler Township man was charged Thursday, Aug. 14, with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence after going the wrong way up one of Route 422’s exit ramps in May.
State police were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on the Route 68 off-ramp of Route 422 in Butler Township around 2:30 a.m. on May 27. While there, police interviewed both of the drivers involved.
Police said Mullins was trying to find his way back to Indiana, Pa., when he made a wrong turn up the ramp. He told police he was attempting to turn around when he was hit.
According to a police affidavit, the other driver said he was traveling east on Route 422 when he took the exit onto Route 68. He saw Mullins’ vehicle, which had no lights on, at the last minute and hit it in the rear tow hitch with his front driver’s side wheel.
Police said during his interview, Mullins was slurring his speech, smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking. The affidavit said he agreed to field sobriety tests, but stopped before completing them.
Mullins also was found to have a DUI suspended drivers license, police said.
The affidavit said police transported Mullins to the Butler barracks and he was given a breath test which resulted in a blood-alcohol content of .192. The legal limit in Pennsylvania is 0.08%.
A preliminary hearing is yet to be scheduled.
