Dr. Charles Rice, professor emeritus of Slippery Rock University, passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Liedel-Rice, and his two benevolent daughters, Amy Miller (Scott) and Beth Clegg (Bill). Chuck was a compassionate granddad who adored Sophia as his only grandchild.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Edison and Pearl Rice; his oldest daughter, Ellen Rice Carfano (Kevin); and his first wife, mother of his children, Margaret Black. Chuck is survived by a nephew and numerous nieces and countless friends.

Chuck enlisted and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the end of the Korean War. He had a lust for learning and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in education at Clarion University, Master of Education at the University of Indiana and a doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh.

He enjoyed teaching and counseling his students. He was an esteemed educator who promoted high standards. His unconditional love enabled students to feel safe in becoming fully competent educators.

RICE — Family and friends of Dr. Charles Rice, who died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, are welcome from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Divine Grace Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. Interment will follow at Holy Savior Cemetery.
