High school golf roundup: Freeport boys cruise, Butler loses narrowly, A-C Valley/Union 2nd at mega match
Gavin Tola shot a match-low 37, and Freeport boys golf improved to 2-0 on the season with a 193-296 rout of Leechburg.
Tola’s nine-hole score (par was 36) Wednesday at The Links at Spring Church was two shots better than the field, but the other four Yellowjackets — Ethan Crooks, Carson Kane, Aiden Bauman and Max Zigo — all shot 39. Freeport improved to 2-0 in section play.
Pine-Richland 199, Butler 203 — The Golden Tornado (1-3, 0-2 section) were led by Boden Lenyk’s 37, which tied the Rams’ Michael Pifer to the low nine-hole round of the day. Jase Renwick and Henry Bortmes shot 39s for Butler.
Mars 195, New Castle 218 — Jackson Geiger’s 36 paced the day at Sylvan Heights Golf Course. His even-par score in nine holes was followed by Jaxon Hittle’s 38 and Lukas Singh’s 39.
KSAC Mega Match No. 2 — A-C Valley/Union featured three golfers carding scores under 40, including Joe Rapp’s field-topping 35, as the Falcon Knights tied Brookville for second place out of 11 teams with 204 strokes at Hi-Level Golf Course.
Keystone finished first with 190 strokes.
Also starring for the Falcon Knights were Hudson Bliss (37, tied for third) and Koen Strauser (38, tied for fifth). Jake Long carded a 41 to lead Moniteau, and Joey O’Donnell shot a 42 for Karns City.
North Catholic 187, Hampton 206 — Ben Kandravy shot a match-best 33 to lead the Trojans at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course.
North Catholic 188, Seton LaSalle 199 — Riley Kontul shot a match-low 43 at Frosty Valley Golf Course, leading the Trojans to a second win in as many days.
