Butler Transit Authority repairs garage
Butler Transit Authority’s board of directors agreed to pay nearly $15,000 for repairs to their garage at a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
“Salt has corroded into the garage and it’s exposed rebar. This is to resurface that,” John Paul, authority executive director, said to the board.
The low bid on the project, which was placed by Holbein and totals $14,720, was accepted at Tuesday’s meeting in a 5-0 vote. Chairman Joe Hasychak was absent.
Paul said the area of the corrosion stretches across five bays and is the culmination of a few years’ worth of decay. He also said the authority has an idea of how the corrosion occurred and would need to discuss the matter with Butler Area Rural Transit before the winter.
“Now, in the winter, they need to run their vehicles through the bus wash everyday because (the corrosion) didn’t occur on our side of it,” he said.
Paul also said the authority only received one other bid on the project, but it came in around $27,000. The project is expected to get underway in the fall with hopes to finish before the roads are salted for the first time.
In other business, the authority approved a new contract for fire monitoring with Intelligent Electronic Systems for a three-year period. The authority previously used Johnson Controls, but found that better rates were available.
According to Paul, “$420 per year is the cost for the monitoring and cell service, and this contract drops the hourly rate from $179 to $149.”
By comparison, he said Johnson Controls’ annual bill was $7,000.
The next Butler Transit Authority meeting is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
